The Multnomah County Health Department offers TB screening and treatment through its Tuberculosis Prevention and Treatment Center. Dormitory shelters and similar facilities where people are in close proximity to each other make them a high-risk environment for transmission. Portland area shelters with dormitories require a TB card for admission. Testing is a simple, outpatient procedure that involves getting a needle prick with a reactive agent on it. The skin is then observed two days later to determine if a person is infected with TB, or has the disease.
If you think you have or are at risk of contracting TB, please call the Multnomah County Clinic at 503-988-3417 and find out if you are eligible to be seen. Services are by appointment only. No one is denied medication because of inability to pay.
